We moved into an apartment about 3 months ago and to say the least the insulation sucks in between the houses. Our neighbors are big pot smokers. I could careless what they do in their own home but the smell is so strong in our home all the time. We have no idea what to do about the situation. We are stuck in a lease and if we go to the manager they(the neighbor) will know it is us. They are really rough people and I worry about our safety if we say or do anything. They also have kids living there and so much traffic all hours of the day and night. What can we do???

If you don't already have a Neighborhood Watch Program in force, I highly recommend this as a first step. We had a similar situation and happily, after getting Neighborhood Watch and the property owner involved, our problem, at least for now, has been solved. Good luck

It is important that you speak with your manager. It is their job to address the situation and do so without naming you. They cannot help you if they do not know there is a problem. Did you sign a Crime Free Addendum when you moved in? Many apartments use this as a way to keep illegal activity out of their communities. This is another tool that will help your manager. Hope this situation is resolved soon for you.

Roltide14 ~ I (totally) understand your apprehension in NOT wanting to say something to management. Three houses within my neighborhood had issues with a neighbor. We are currently working with Safe Streets Now; however, this neighbor thinks I'm the one that "blew the whistle". It's tough, and it's scary....but, we have to stand up to these guys ! It's not fair that they make us feel uncomfortable in our homes. Stay strong, and work with the programs ECPD offers & call upon those that are out there to protect us.

I would have already done something but I have a teenager that I worry about. He is scared about what will happen to him because of some of the traffic is teenagers and they go to his school. I did speak with my manager about another problem and she kind of threw me under the bus. I don't think she meant too but she did. Thank you all for the ideas and suggestions and I am going to try and do something to fix this problem, I just don't know what yet!!!

I have a similar problem in some respects. We notice a pot smell from some teenagers coming from a neighbor's house. We are concerned about any underage imbibing and lack of parent supervision but we also understand.
The problem is that about a week later my child found a "Medical Marijuana" container that had been tossed into our yard, along with an empty beer bottle. (This one of many times trash has been thrown into ours and adjacent neighbors yards, it seems to be part of a petty bulling campaign).
So what is the deal with "Medical Marijuana" and what about the exposure to grade school children?

Hi GrossmontArea,
The use of medical marijuana is something that should be verified on a case by case basis, especially if there may be younger children involved. If you suspect marijuana is being used around young children you can call the police department and request a check the welfare for those children. We will make contact at the residence to determine if everything is as it should be.
