People drive like they are on a race track at the corner of Taft and Pauline. They go so fast and hit that dip in the street that they get airborne. If there is a little water in that dip they have to stop and get their tires squealing before passing through. I've called in and reported this but nothing has ever been done about it. Is there any way to get this stopped? Thanks

I will pass this information along to our traffic officers. Speeding is a major concern on all of our streets in town. The El Cajon Police Department Traffic division actively works areas of concerns for residents. Thank you for letting us know. Has anyone done anything to combat this problem in your own neighborhood? I would love to hear what other residents have done to minimize and or elevate this problem. ---------- Officer Hansen El Cajon Police Department

When I moved into the neighborhood 9 years ago I contacted the city of El Cajon and asked if we could get a stop sign installed at the corner of Taft and Pauline but they said they could not because Pauline is not a through street. They put up a sign and wrote dip in the street but that did not help slow the people down.

Officer Hansen asked: "I would love to hear what other residents have done to minimize and or elevate this problem." I have always noticed that making people aware of their speed makes them slow down. Like the radar signs that show you your current speed (there's one on Greefield and another one over on Fletcher Pkwy). If people see how fast they are going they tend to slow down because they think they're being watched. Maybe set up a portable one to start with and then eventually set up a speed trap over there with motorcycles to get people to slow down. I remember when that new stretch of the 125 first opened a few years ago. People were flying through there like it was the Autobahn doing 90 MPH. But, after 6 months of daily speeding tickets (with multiple units operating on that new stretch of highway) people have slowed down and do the speed limit through there now. Once the speeders get a couple of $300 tickets and start to lose points on their license.... they'll slow down.

Put in a request to ECPD about having the portable radar sign put up in your area. It might take a few weeks before they can meet your request, but it can be a temporary deterant for speeders. Once it is taken down though, the problem can return. You might try having an informal meeting with some of your immediate neighbors and all get on the same page with writing down the license numbers and kinds of cars who are the repeat offenders. This can be helpful information with moving forward on some next steps. If you want some help putting a meeting together, let me know, I would be happy to help.
