There is an electric box around 300 Orlando Street that has a gathering of 3-7 young people ( 14-26 years old) in the evenings. There tends to be loud music, foul language and confrontations with anyone in the area. Many vehicles stop and come and go with these people. I also noticed black boots hanging on the phone lines just above their hang out. (I heard that is a sign that certain drugs are available). This street does not feel safe. I would love for them to be contacted and for them to choose another place to hang out.

We are aware of the problem at the green box on Orlando and have made many contacts there and several arrests. Our gang street team works on this location whenever they can and so do the patrol officers. Most of the time all we can do is contact them and get there information because there is no crime being committed and they are on a public street. We will continue to work on this problem and please call when you see anything unusual or suspicious going on.

Most of the time, if they repeatedly are stopped and questioned by the police, they will move along and find a new hangout spot. Just don't get frustrated and give up! Keep calling!

I have heard the "SNEAKERS ON THE WIRE" story related to it signifying a drug house, marking gang territory or predicting a homicide. There is no intelligence to support any of these claims. As Officer Tindle posted, The Gang Street Team (GST) has been and will be doing further active patrol checks in the area. These efforts along with the efforts of the patrol officers and community members should help curtail the issue. Please do your part and if you see subjects who are loitering in the area and you have reason to believe they may be up to criminal activity, do not hesitate to call the police department's non-emergency line at 619-579-3311. It seems that the activity has increased on Orlando Street once again. Thanks for you extra patrols and frequent contacts.
