2014 Citizen’s Police Academy
The El Cajon Police Department is now accepting applications for the 2014 Citizen’s Police Academy. The Citizen’s Police Academy will be held at the El Cajon Police Department beginning Wednesday, March 19, 2014, and conclude with a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Participants will attend weekly classes every Wednesday from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. The Citizen’s Police Academy is a ten-week program that allows members of the community to learn how their police department functions from the inside – out. Topics will cover: the history of law enforcement, the criminal justice system, and crime scene investigation. Students will see presentations from divisions within the police department and participate in hands-on exercises such as conducting traffic stops, dusting for fingerprints and firearms simulation.
Everyone is encouraged to apply; however, citizens and business people in the city of El Cajon will be given priority and you must be 18 to particpate. Only 25 participants will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. A background check will be conducted on all applicants. Applicants will be notified of via mail if they have been accepted or not, by March 7, 2014.
An application for the Citizen’s Police Academy can be downloaded at www.elcajonneighbors.org. If you are unable to download the application, they will be available at the front counter of the Police Department. Applications must be dropped off or mailed to: El Cajon Police Department: 100 Civic Center Way, El Cajon, CA, 92020. We cannot accept e-mailed applications. Applications will be taken in the order received. All applications received after the first 25, once approved, will be placed on a waiting list.
